From April 22nd to 23rd, 2024, there will be grinding work taking place, with a flagger stationed in front of each residence for a brief period. The work will commence near the bridge at Road 32, progressing westward towards Rd 54 along the north side of Sylvester Street. If you require access while the workers are in front of your residence, kindly inform either the workers or the city, as access will always be facilitated. The work will commence at 7 am on both days.

Door-to-Door Outreach (Thursday, March 27, 2024)
The Public Works and construction teams visited residents along Sylvester Street between Rd 54 to Rd 32 and at 14th on 3/27 to discuss the project. The team left an informative handout with project information if no one was available at a residence. The City appreciates the support this project has received and excited to provide you more updates as the project progresses.
A Safer Sylvester Street
Bridging Communities with Care: As an essential east-west minor arterial, Sylvester Street is the lifeline that unites residential areas with the vibrant heart of downtown Pasco. Recognizing its importance, the City's 2020 Local Road Safety Plan highlights this major corridor for significant safety enhancements.
Project Vision
Road to Resilience: Sylvester Street is set for a transformation. The current four-lane configuration will evolve into a more accessible three-lane roadway, including two travel lanes and a center turn lane dedicated to improving flow and safety.
Commitment to Safety and Accessibility
Pedal and Pedestrian Priority: Our project introduces narrower travel lanes, a lowered speed limit, and the addition of sidewalk and bicycle facilities, creating a more inclusive road from Road 54 to N 3rd Avenue. The installation of three rapid flashing beacons is a beacon of our commitment to ensuring pedestrians cross with confidence.
Project Improvements Overview
Center Turn Lane: Smoother turns and improved traffic flow.
Multi-Use Path: A shared space for cyclists and pedestrians.
Bike Lanes: Dedicated lanes for a safer cycling experience.
Sidewalk: Expanded pedestrian areas for a more walkable city.
Retained Parking: Convenient parking with roadway redesign.
Safe Street Crossings: Enhanced crosswalks with rapid flashing beacons.
Funding and Cost
An Investment in Community Well-being: The initial cost of the project stands at $4.9 million, with funding sourced from $1.52 million in Federal grants and $2.675 million in State grants. These investments underscore the value placed on the safety and efficiency of our streets.
Timeline
From Planning to Progress: The project is set to being construction on April 8th. Residents and businesses in the immediate area will receive postcards and a visit from our construction team in the weeks leading up to construction.
