[ARCHIVED] Temporary Closure of Lewis Street for Overpass Construction Starting February 26

Full Lewis Closure Detour

The City of Pasco is advising residents and commuters of a temporary closure on West Lewis Street from North Oregon Avenue to North 2nd Avenue (the underpass), starting February 26, for approximately eight weeks. This closure is a necessary step in the ongoing construction of the Lewis Street Overpass project aimed at enhancing connectivity and safety within the city.

Details of the Closure:

  • Duration: The specified section of West Lewis Street will be closed to all traffic for about eight weeks, beginning Monday, February 26.
  • Purpose: This closure allows Cascade Bridge, the contractor working on behalf of the City, to conduct bridge construction activities safely and efficiently.
  • Detours and Delays: Commuters should anticipate traffic detours and potential delays in the vicinity. The City encourages using alternate routes during this period to minimize disruption.
  • Detour Information: A detour map is available here to assist residents and visitors in navigating the construction site; drivers are asked to use A Street between 4th Avenue and Oregon Avenue.

The Lewis Street Overpass project is designed to provide a seamless link between key areas of Pasco, fostering economic development and improving the quality of life for residents. Key attributes of the project include:

  • Improved safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Enhanced connectivity for freight, emergency services, and public transportation.
  • Promotion of economic growth through infrastructure development.
  • Environmental considerations such as stormwater management.

The City of Pasco is committed to minimizing the impact of construction on the community and ensuring the safety of all residents and commuters. "We understand the temporary inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we work to complete this vital project," said Interim Public Works Director Maria Serra. "The Lewis Street Overpass will significantly benefit our city, including safer, more efficient travel and economic opportunities."

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the project and its progress by checking this website and the City's social media channels for updates.
