[ARCHIVED] Sylvester Street Safety Improvements Open House, Thursday, November 10, 6 pm – 8 pm

Sylvester Street Open House 11-10-22

The City of Pasco Public Works Engineering Division will hold an Open House on the planned Sylvester Street Safety Improvements Project on Thursday, November 10, from 6 pm to 8 pm in Council Chambers at Pasco City Hall, 525 N. 3rd Avenue.

The Sylvester Street Safety Improvements Project is currently in the preliminary design stages. The design is anticipated to be finalized in early 2023, with construction to begin shortly after that. Sylvester Street is an east-west arterial that helps connect residential areas of the community to Downtown Pasco. The City’s 2020 Local Road Safety Plan identified Sylvester Street as one of the significant corridors needing safety mitigation measures.

The Project, as currently envisioned, will convert the undivided four-lane roadway into a three-lane roadway segment with two travel lanes, a center turn lane, and bicycle lanes. The proposed Project would narrow the width of the travel lanes, lower the posted speed limit, and construct sidewalk and bicycle facilities along West Sylvester Street between Road 54 and 3rd Avenue. Additionally, three rapid flashing beacons will be installed to allow for the safe crossing of pedestrians. Improvements on the US-395 overpass are excluded from this Project. However, they are the subject of a future planned project that will provide safe multimodal accessibility along this crossing.

“We hope the community will attend and let us know their thoughts on the proposed safety improvements along this important corridor,” said Public Works Director Steve Worley. “These planned improvements will help make Sylvester safer for the many that use this street to transit across the city,” Worley added.

More information on the Project, including a video illustrating the proposed improvements, can be found on the City’s website at www.pasco-wa.gov/sylvesterstreet.
