[ARCHIVED] City Council to Interview Four for Council Vacancy

The Pasco City Council will interview four applicants for the Council District 3 vacancy, created after Councilmember Nikki Torres announced her resignation at the end of May. 

A total of 11 applicants submitted materials that the Council reviewed at the July 5 meeting. Interviews will be conducted at the Monday, July 11 meeting of the City Council, starting at 6 pm; Council will then select a finalist, and that finalist will be invited to be sworn in and seated immediately. 

The four chosen for interviews are:

  • Zulema Abastillas
  • Irving Brown, Sr.
  • Ryan Jones
  • Marianna Polyukh

The other applicants for the vacancy were:

  • Brett Knapp
  • Brent McGary
  • Jack Merrill
  • Leo Perales
  • Stephen Persons
  • Kate Smith
  • Stan Smith

The current term of the District 3 seat expires December 31, 2025; however, per state law, the selected applicant will have to stand for election in the 2023 General Election to fill out the rest of the current term. 

The public is welcomed at all City Council meetings and can be watched via PSC-TV Channel 191 on Spectrum Cable in Pasco and Richland or on PSC-TV Video on Demand, YouTube, and the City’s Facebook page.
