[ARCHIVED] February 24 Pasco City Council Workshop Meeting Recap

City Council Chambers

The Pasco City Council, in the Workshop Meeting of February 24, had several items up for discussion; some of the more notable items were:

  • Randy Hayden, Executive Director of the Port of Pasco, spoke to Council regarding the planned Reimann Industrial Center north of the current Pasco Processing Center. The new industrial center has the potential to be another large job engine for the region with up to 1,000 new jobs.
  • The Council heard from City staff on some new revenue bonds and refinancing of some existing bonds. The new bonds, for approximately $16 million, will pay for much-needed upgrades to equipment at the Process Water Reuse Facility (PWRF), which takes in water from the Pasco Processing Center. These new bonds will be paid by the industrial users of the PWRF. The refinancing of bonds issued in 2009 and 2010, for approximately $9 million, will save around $1.2 million over the life of the bonds for water and sewer customers.
  • There was a lengthy discussion on some possible alternatives for extending sewer service in the Riverview (or so-called “doughnut hole”) area. As developable land is becoming more of a premium in the region, staff looked at some possibilities, costs, and policy implications of the extension of sewer service in the center of the City’s Urban Growth Area. Council will be discussing this issue further.
