[ARCHIVED] Pasco City Council Seeks Members for New Arts and Culture Commission

The Pasco City Council is seeking community members to volunteer for a new Arts and Culture Commission to advise the Council on matters relating to public art and culture.

As authorized by City Ordinance 4472, the Commission will also help review and evaluate on matters pertaining to the acceptance, procurement, placement, and maintenance of public art. The Commission will perform other functions as the City’s primary resource in matters of public art and culture.

All positions on the Commission are four years terms, except a Youth Representative, which is two years. Terms will be staggered to ensure continuity of the Commission. Membership on the Commission is divided into four categories:

• Community Member: Persons of public agencies, organizations enhancing Pasco’s quality of life or, persons working outside of professional practice in the arts but who demonstrate a deep interest in and understanding of public art activities. Member is required to live, work, or own business within Pasco city limits.
• Art Professional: Persons in professions such as art directors, educators, managers/administrators, dealers and/or individuals enrolled in higher education art programs.
• Artist: Including but not limited to: painting, sculpture, music, literature, architecture, and performing arts. This Commission member is required to live, work, or own business within Pasco City limits.
• Youth Representative: Person between the ages of 15 to 20 years old at the time of appointment, nexus to Pasco is required.

“The sharing of arts and culture through sight, word, dance, and music enhances understanding and strengthens our wonderful Pasco community,” said Pasco Mayor Saul Martinez. “We encourage interested members of the Pasco community to apply and help us promote arts and culture in Pasco,” he added.
