[ARCHIVED] Pasco City Council Actions

City Council Chambers

The Pasco City Council, in its first meeting of 2020, made some important and historic decisions.

The first order of business in front of the Council was the selection of Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem; the Council elects two Councilmembers to act as Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem for a two-year term.  The Council unanimously selected Councilmember Saul Martinez as Mayor and Blanche Barajas as Mayor Pro-Tem.  Both selections mark the first time a Latino will serve as Mayor or Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Pasco.

The Mayor (or Mayor Pro-Tem) acts as chair of the City Council, appoints volunteers to City Boards and Commissions with Council consent, signs proclamations, and represents the City at various events.

The Council welcomed newly elected At-Large Councilmember Zahra Roach, who fills the same seat as former Mayor Matt Watkins, who left office at the end of 2019.

In other Council actions, they approved the start of the process to form a Local Improvement District in northwest Pasco to finance the construction of sewer service for this growing area of the City, and approved a contract for the design of the sewer for the area.
