[ARCHIVED] Mayor Matt Watkins Leaving Office after 16 Years

Watkins

The City of Pasco will be honoring Mayor Matt Watkins this week as he concludes 16 years of service to the community.

Mayor Watkins chose not to run for re-election in 2019 and will be leaving office at the end of the month.

First elected in 2004 as Councilmember and then elected Mayor by the Council in 2010, Watkins has left a positive mark on the Pasco community through tremendous growth and challenges. Councilmembers, City staff, and the community have appreciated Watkins’ patience and even hand leading the City Council in the last ten years.

“Mayor Watkins is the strongest of advocates for Pasco and the Tri-Cities,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Craig Maloney. “His steady, thoughtful leadership helped build the amazing community we live in today. He is one of a kind and will be sorely missed.”

“Mayor Watkins has been a faithful servant and inspiration for the people of Pasco and the Tri-Cities,” said Councilmember Saul Martinez. “His relentless strength and care for people have shaped the community into a thriving place to live. His time and effort to improve the quality of life for our citizens will be remembered for a long time. Mayor Watkins has performed beyond the call of duty.”

The City Council will have a short presentation and reception for Mayor Watkins at Monday’s Council Special Meeting and Workshop, which will start at 6 pm. The public also is invited to a reception on Wednesday, December 11, at 5:30 pm, at the Pasco Red Lion to thank the Mayor for his service to Pasco.

The City of Pasco strives to continue improving the quality of community life in Pasco.
