[ARCHIVED] Pasco Named “All-America City” Finalist Two Years in A Row

The City of Pasco has once again been named one of 20 finalists for the prestigious national “All-America City” Award (AAC) given by the National Civic League.

The award, given to 10 communities each year, celebrates and recognizes neighborhoods, villages, towns, cities, counties, tribes and regions that engage residents in innovative, inclusive and effective efforts to tackle critical challenges.

The 2019 spotlight for the Award is efforts focused on inclusive engagement practices that create healthy communities for all, and particularly for populations currently experiencing poorer health outcomes. Finalist communities’ presentations will bring their written application to life and demonstrate the positive effects of using equitable engagement strategies to address issues such as promoting mental health, addressing obesity, and building stronger neighborhoods. Pasco’s three projects for consideration are the Hot Spotters mental health program, Tri-Cities Community Health’s “Let’s Prevent Diabetes/Prevengamos las Diabetes”, and Pasco School District-Columbia Basin College’s Food Student Support.

The 20 finalist communities will compete June 21-23 to be recognized as one of ten All-America Cities for 2019. Each community will bring a team to participate in presentations and workshops for three days in Denver, Colorado.

“This second year of national recognition of the Pasco community’s work to build bridges and improve our community is most gratifying”, said City Manager Dave Zabell. “I look forward to the event in June where we can once again share the community’s story and hopefully bring home the “All-America City” award.”
