How to become a lifeguard

Lifeguard

Each spring we hire multiple staff to operate Memorial Aquatic Park during the summer months. If you are interested in working at our pool we have a couple of options:

  • Cashier – This position handles all financial transactions at the front desk of the pool.
  • Lifeguard – This position requires a current Lifeguarding Certification.
  • Instructor Guard – This position requires a current Lifeguarding and a Swim America Certification.
  • Head Guard – This position works in a leadership role by overseeing other lifeguards. It requires at least one year of experience as a lifeguard and a current Lifeguarding Certification. It is also preferred that they have their Swim America Certification.
  • Pool Manager – This position manages the operations at the pool and requires at least two years experience as a lifeguard. This position requires a current Lifeguarding and a Swim America Certification. It is also preferred that they have their Lifeguard Instructor Certification.

If you are interested in one of these positions:

  • Go to Human Resources to apply
  • Indicate the position you are interested in
  • List any certifications that you currently hold that apply (If the position you are interested in requires a certification you are expected to obtain this certification on your own)

We are usually able to offer a Life Guard Training class in early summer, however taking this class does not guarantee you a job. You will need to apply for the position you are interested in and go through the screening process. Register for aquatic activities.
