[ARCHIVED] Pasco City Council Discusses Recent Protests

June 1 Council Meeting

The Pasco City Council, during its meeting on June 1, devoted most of the meeting time discussing the homicide of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the resulting protests here in Pasco, and the great work of the Pasco community over the past five years to improve the relations between the Pasco Police Department and the community.

A subcommittee of the Council is working with community members on a Resolution for the full City Council to consider affirming the right to peaceful protest and the City’s ongoing commitment, as expressed in Resolution 3820, passed in 2017, “to protect the constitutional rights of its citizens, including the right to be free of discriminatory practices and the fair application of law and to demonstrate that Pasco is a welcoming and inclusive City, where laws apply equally to all who live here, and where individuals, families and businesses are welcome”. Resolution 3820 is quoted and linked on every page here on the City’s website.

You can watch the discussion as part of Council Agenda Item 6 at https://youtu.be/-so2mS0_7d8?t=430 and Agenda Item 11 https://youtu.be/-so2mS0_7d8?t=1756 via YouTube.
